The AP-7 motorway in Alicante will remain toll-free for another year. This announcement was made by the Ministry of Transport, which has extended the toll suspension until 15 February 2026. The extension will come into effect on 16 February this year following its publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE) by the General Secretariat of Land Transport, authorising the State Company for Land Transport Infrastructure (Seitt), which manages the motorway, to implement it.

Thus, as was the case in 2024, no toll will be required on the Alicante Ring Road. The Ministry of Transport assures that following this 100% toll exemption, the necessary steps will be taken to permanently liberalise the motorway.

The decision is attributed to the "positive results" of the measure activated in mid-July to alleviate congestion on the A-70, which was nearing its maximum capacity. The measure has enhanced road safety on Alicante's motorways, reducing congestion on this route by up to 43% in the autumn.

Meanwhile, the AP-7 has doubled its traffic "while maintaining optimal service," according to the department led by Minister Óscar Puente. Thus, the motorway's liberalisation has allowed the A-70 to reduce traffic jams by between 19% and 34% during light congestion hours and between 18% and 43% during severe congestion hours.

The data has been even more favourable during the summer months. Between July and August, the removal of tolls reduced congestion by between 64% and 74%, depending on the time of day.
