The automotive sector is solidifying its role as a key player in the push for sustainability, promoting clean technologies, energy efficiency, and more responsible mobility.

According to the report 'Peugeot 2025: Present and Future of the Automotive Sector', sustainability is an important factor for eight out of ten Spaniards when purchasing a car. Of these, 21% consider it decisive in their choice process, and a significant 75.4% would switch brands if offered better products or conditions in this area.

The survey indicates that 58% of citizens would like to use an electric car for their daily commutes, but 18% believe they would not use it due to the daily traffic in their city. Regarding public transport, 24% prefer this option.

In this regard, Spaniards prioritize low fuel consumption (58.3%) over price (51.1%) when deciding on a vehicle purchase, while 18.4% consider low pollution a relevant buying factor. In line with this, 22.9% believe that one of the main areas for improvement by car brands in Spain is to become more sustainable.

The study shows that the hybrid car is the preferred choice for Spaniards (51%), compared to 39% who prefer a traditional combustion vehicle (petrol or diesel) and only 10% who already choose a 100% electric car.

Spaniards are also clear that among the improvements they would like to see in future vehicle models is a more efficient and lower consumption engine offering (in electric and hybrid cars) and the reduction of polluting materials in manufacturing to achieve more sustainable cars throughout their lifecycle.

Nearly 30% of Spaniards also want their car to provide tips for more efficient and eco-friendly driving. For instance, 57.7% would like comprehensive data on fuel/energy consumption and advice for more efficient and eco-friendly driving (28.2%).

Pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles now account for 19.5% of registrations in Spain, according to data from the Business Association for the Development and Promotion of Electric Mobility (AEDIVE) and the National Association of Vehicle Sellers (GANVAM), following a 102.6% increase in registrations in May. It is estimated that by the end of 2025, registrations of electrified vehicles will reach around 200,000 units in Spain.

In this context, Stellantis closed May with 2,192 fully electric vehicles registered (passenger cars + commercial vehicles), representing a market share of 22.6%, leading the ranking in Spain. The group leads the total 100% electric market so far this year, with 7,303 registrations and an 18.8% share. Specifically, the Peugeot E-2008 (manufactured at the Vigo plant) is the third best-selling electric car in our country, with 307 registrations and a 3.4% share in May, reflecting the brand's commitment to electrification.
