El Salón Azul of the Alicante City Hall hosted the swearing-in ceremony for 28 officers as members of the Local Police on Friday. The force now comprises 521 personnel, including officers, officials, and commanders. Mayor Luis Barcala presided over the event, which was attended by numerous family members of the officers and representatives from all municipal groups. The newly appointed officers have been serving in the Local Police since last June in their respective units, with the swearing-in delayed several weeks due to the storm on October 29.
"Alicante receives a Christmas gift today with your permanent inclusion in the force, as you belong to one of the most prestigious and beloved police forces, respected by the residents," highlighted the mayor, who also emphasized "the city's ongoing commitment to strengthening the Local Police force and ensuring job stability and security for its officers."
Barcala noted that many of the officers who are now officially appointed volunteered to assist those affected by the storm in Valencia. He mentioned the congratulatory and appreciative messages received at the City Hall from the affected municipalities in the "ground zero" areas where the Alicante Local Police officers collaborated from the outset of the tragedy.
"Alicante needs you on the streets because the safety and peace of the residents are in your hands, and I am confident that you will earn their trust, as our Police have always done with commendable sacrifice, dedication, and willingness to serve," reiterated the mayor, who also thanked the "necessary" support of the officers' families to the new members of the Local Police.
