Casa Mediterráneo will host a unique regional meeting this Wednesday, September 18, bringing together experts, citizens, and institutions to address environmental and regulatory challenges in the Alicante and Murcia regions. The event will feature prominent speakers, including Paula Fernández-Wulff Barreiro, Director General of the 2030 Agenda at the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs, and the 2030 Agenda; Andrés Perelló, Director General of Casa Mediterráneo; general directors from the public administrations of Murcia and Valencia; professors and researchers from the universities of Alicante and Murcia; as well as social actors, institutions, and private sector representatives. They will gather to discuss the realities of the Mar Menor and urban development in the region.

The goal of the session: to contribute to coastal conservation and sustainable urban development. The approach: a unique space for collaboration and dialogue among various stakeholders, structured through a series of morning presentations followed by an afternoon colloquium to collect requirements and demands.

Professors and researchers from the University of Alicante and the University of Murcia will provide an academic perspective based on rigorous studies and verified scientific data. These experts will share detailed information about the environmental and regulatory challenges facing the region, grounded in recent research that offers a deep understanding of the situation. Their interventions will provide a critical and well-informed perspective, offering necessary context to understand the dynamics affecting not only the Mar Menor but also other areas of the Mediterranean coastline and urban development.

The event will conclude with the compilation of a set of concrete actions, agreed upon by various participants, which will be evaluated in municipal and regional councils. These actions will serve as a guide for implementing local policies and strategies focused on sustainability and environmental protection.

We aim to inspire other activists, associations, or municipalities to organize similar meetings to promote dialogue and cooperation around environmental challenges. In this way, not only will the initial impact of the project be amplified, but a broader and sustained movement towards climate action and building sustainable communities will also be fostered. The event is free and open to all.
