The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) and Dorna Sports have officially announced the provisional calendar for the 2025 MotoGP season. The term 'provisional' is justified because in recent years, cancellations and date changes have been a constant in the championship. The table presented this Thursday, prior to the introduction of the Indonesian Grand Prix taking place this weekend, consists of 22 Grand Prix spread across four continents. And although Southeast Asia had gained ground in recent years, partly because more two-wheeled vehicles are registered there than anywhere else on the planet, Europe is increasing its presence in 2025 with the return of two classic rounds in Central Europe, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
It will be the earliest start in history, as the first free practice sessions will take place still in February, something never seen before. It had also never started in Thailand, which will host the first race on March 2. After that, the championship will head to the Americas, with the Argentine GP returning to its natural spot after this year's cancellation caused by President Javier Milei's austerity policies; and Texas will host its round on the last weekend of March. Qatar, which had always hosted the first race of the year in recent years, will follow with its spectacular night race.
The Jerez circuit will once again be the first European round on April 27. After the French and British Grand Prix, it won't be long until the second Spanish round, the Aragón GP, which swaps dates with Catalonia and will take place on June 8. Italy, Netherlands, Germany, and the aforementioned Czech GP at Brno's historic track will close out the first part of the season before a three-week summer break.
Action will resume in Austria in August, just before another major calendar addition, the Hungarian GP scheduled for August 24 at the new Balaton Park circuit. Following that, Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya will host Spain's third home round on September 7, just before San Marino. And before the traditional autumn Asian tour that will take the paddock to Japan, Indonesia, Australia, and Malaysia.
There won't be any triple-headers this year but there will be eight double-headers. Another novelty for 2025 is that the season will end with two consecutive races on Iberian soil. The Portuguese GP at Algarve International Circuit and the grand finale at Valencia GP at Circuit Ricardo Tormo will mark the definitive end of the 2025 MotoGP season.
