The Mancomunidad de l'Alacantí has tendered the installation of 20 stations for electric cars with 40 spaces distributed across the city of Alicante. An additional 14 will be placed in San Vicente, San Joan, Mutxamel, and El Campello.

Once the contract is awarded, the execution period for the commissioning of the equipment is set at five months. Furthermore, the technical specifications of the public tender include the concession of the service for supply, installation, commissioning, and operation for a period of 10 years plus a one-year extension.

The charging points planned for installation in Alicante are located on Niza Avenue - numbers 22, 23, and 30 - and Historiador Vicente Ramos Avenue, 30; Hondón de los Frailes Street, 5 and Foguerer José Ángel Girao Street, s/n; Elche Avenue, 109; Campoamor Square and Periodista Rafael González Aguilar Street, 1; Sol Naciente Street, 40; Doctor Cristóbal Pardo Street, 509; Economista Germán Bernácer Street, 32; Gomiz Promenade, s/n, Doctor Gómez Ulla Square, 7; and Pontevedra Street, 3; Virgen del Puig Street, 2; Isla de Cuba Street, 39, Adolfo Blanch Street, 1; and Fernando Madroñal Street, 32.

The Councillor for Urban Mobility, Carlos de Juan, highlighted that "the implementation of stations for the charging of electric vehicles in public areas is being promoted, advancing the use of sustainable energy over greenhouse gas-emitting fossil fuels to foster sustainable mobility."

The Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, announced on June 10, 2024, the push for the planned launch of this coordinated network of charging points for electric vehicles in the l'Alacantí region, during the presentation of the new electric vehicle charging hub installed by Iberdrola at the Gran Vía shopping centre. Barcala defended Alicante's "commitment to electromobility, a field in which our public transport is a leader with half of the bus fleet already electrified and a commitment to continue advancing in this area in the coming years."

Additionally, Alicante offers a rebate on the Mechanical Traction Vehicle Tax (IVTM), which is part of a series of initiatives being adopted in the city to improve sustainability and air quality. These include the electrification of the urban transport bus fleet, with the addition - as noted by the mayor - of 23 100% electric 'zero emissions' vehicles and 20 hybrids, the implementation of the Low Emission Zone, pedestrianisation measures, traffic calming, park-and-ride facilities, and the introduction of new lanes for bicycles and personal mobility vehicles.
