PAU 2 to Open Green Zone by 2026

Residents of PAU 2 La Torreta can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel for their completed park. The construction of this green infrastructure had been stalled for two years after the contractor, a joint venture between Ecisa and Construcciones Urrutia, withdrew from the project in 2023. This Tuesday, the Local Government Board approved the terms for awarding the contract to finish the works.

The government team also approved a multi-year expenditure to complete these actions. In 2025, 523,230 euros are budgeted to start the works. In 2026, the City Council will allocate 3,110,146 euros to complete the pending park construction with a six-month execution period.

The spokesperson for the Government team, Cristina Cutanda, highlighted their intention to start the works in 2025 so that residents can enjoy the park by 2026. "The new project improves upon the previous one and incorporates new facilities promoting inclusive and accessible use for all users," she explained at the press conference following the Government Board meeting.

The new park in the La Torreta neighbourhood (PAU 2) is located between Isla de Corfú and Deportista Isabel Fernández avenues. The park is designed as a large green area with varying heights and zones for play, sports, and relaxation. The planting of trees and hedges has been planned to highlight the diversity of spaces, organising species by colour, flowering season, and compatibility. The aim is for the garden to offer a changing visual journey, where each area is characterised by a predominant colour in its flowering, creating a dynamic and aesthetically rich environment throughout the year.

Throughout the park, there will be areas with urban furniture for rest and enjoyment, as well as shaded zones. However, the most notable feature of this new park in Alicante is the large number and variety of recreational and sports spaces it will host, including a stage with stands for hosting all kinds of outdoor events.

The park will have three children's play areas that include inclusive games, such as walkways for people with reduced mobility, tactile and sound panels, and adapted swings. It will also feature a 28-metre-long zip line and nine slides located on the slopes separating the park's terraces, creating an alternative route specially designed for children. These slides connect the upper viewpoint with the rounded gravel pit where the zip line is located, offering a playful experience that enriches the park's journey and provides a fun transition between different terrain levels.

Additionally, climbing ropes will be placed parallel to the slopes on the sides of the slides, allowing users to ascend the slopes by climbing them. This solution not only offers a playful and dynamic alternative in the park's journey but also encourages physical activity and interactive play, enriching the visitors' experience and promoting participation from people of all ages and abilities.

An important part of the park, aimed at older users, is the sports equipment. These are located around the southwest entrances but are perfectly connected to the play areas, facilitating transit and interaction between users of different ages. The equipment includes facilities such as a calisthenics area, a circuit of biosaludable exercises, pétanque courts, a climbing wall, and others, promoting a healthy lifestyle among visitors.
