A 16-year-old minor has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a teacher at a Secondary Education Institute (IES) in Elche (Alicante). According to police sources, the incident occurred at IES La Asunción on Monday when, according to the victim's testimony, the teenager jumped the school fence shouting and saying that they wanted to hit his younger brother.
The alleged aggressor is not a student of the institute, so the teacher explained that he could not be on the premises. The teacher also tried to ask the younger brother if he had any problems, but the 16-year-old told her not to speak to him and assaulted and spat on this professional. The case is now in the hands of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office.
For his part, the Minister of Education, Culture, Universities, and Employment, José Antonio Rovira, when asked about this incident, assured in statements to the media this Wednesday before participating in the opening ceremony of the academic year at the Catholic University of Valencia (UCV), that it is an "isolated case, as unfortunately happens with assaults on healthcare workers or teachers."
In this regard, he confirmed that the assaulted teacher "has filed the corresponding complaint," to whom he guaranteed "full legal support" from the Ministry of Education.
In this context, he pointed out that his department has been working "for some time" on the new coexistence decree which, as he advanced, will further strengthen "even more" the role of teachers.
And he announced that next week the Directorate General of Innovation will meet with unions to present "a first draft." "We are going to take steps forward," he assessed.
