At least six 12-year-old children were injured this Tuesday after a classmate attacked them with a knife at a school in Azambuja, a small town located in the Portuguese district of Lisbon.

The attacker, also 12 years old, used a knife from the school's dining hall. Among the injured is a girl in serious condition who has been transferred to Santa Maria Hospital in the Portuguese capital, according to Portuguese media reports.

The National Republican Guard (GNR) reported that they received the call from the school around 2:30 PM - one hour later in Spain. They also indicated that it is still too early to detail the reasons that led the minor to carry out the attack.

Meanwhile, the Azambuja School Association issued a brief statement highlighting that Tuesday's incident was an "isolated act" and that after the situation was "normalized," classes will continue "as usual" starting this Wednesday.
