La 1 and Telecinco's monthly battle for second place concluded in April with the public broadcaster emerging victorious. TVE's primary channel secured the silver medal with a 10.6% audience share, three-tenths higher than in March, driven by strong viewership in the final days. The overtime of the Copa del Rey final became the most-watched event of the month, with a 57.2% share and over 7.8 million viewers. This allowed La 1 to surpass Telecinco, which settled for third place with a 10.4% share, three-tenths less than the previous month.

Antena 3 led the ratings with a 12.5% share, matching its March performance. It maintains its strengths in two key slots: lunchtime and prime time. During lunchtime, 'La ruleta de la suerte' averaged a 22.3% share and 1,576,000 viewers in April, surpassing its nearest rival by 11.3 points. Earlier, 'Cocina abierta de Karlos Arguiñano' stood out with an 18.3% share and 846,000 followers. The daily drama 'Sueños de libertad' (13.2% and 1,163,000), 'Pasapalabra' (19.1% and 1,710,000), and evening offerings like 'Tu cara me suena' (22.4% and 2,027,000) solidify the channel as the favourite choice.

Antena 3 also comfortably wins the 'access prime time' slot, airing after dinner. Pablo Motos' 'El hormiguero' continues to be the most-watched daily programme, with a 14.5% share and 1,870,000 viewers, securing another victory over David Broncano's 'La revuelta' (11.7%), which recorded its lowest monthly rating since its debut on La 1. 'Antena 3 Noticias' remains the most-watched news programme with an average of 18.4% and 1,704,000 viewers.

The public broadcaster boasts that La 1 achieved its best seasonal rating in April and is the fastest-growing generalist channel, gaining 1.6 points compared to the same month last year. It is also the preferred channel among young viewers with an 11.9% audience share.

By region, it is the most-watched in the Balearic Islands (11.6%), the Basque Country (11.3%), Cantabria (13.9%), La Rioja (18.2%), Madrid (12.8%), Murcia (13.9%), and Navarra (12.6%), while Antena 3 leads in the remaining regions, except for the Canary Islands, where Telecinco leads with a 14.6%, and Catalonia, where TV3 is the top choice with a 14.5%.

Vatican Funeral

The public broadcaster also excelled with its coverage of Pope Francis' funeral, leading its slot with a 26.9% share and an average of 957,000 viewers.

'La hora de La 1' matched its best monthly rating on La 1 and 24 hours (17.3%); and the new 'Mañaneros 360' with Adela González and Javier Ruiz scored a 10% and 250,000 viewers in its early days, improving its slot. 'La promesa' (14.0% share and 1,018,000) leads in the afternoons, awaiting the premiere of 'La familia de la tele', and the game show 'The Floor' with Chenoa led its debut with a 12.7% and 1,066,000 followers.

Good news for Jorge Javier Vázquez with 'El diario de Jorge', which he presents every afternoon and which broke its historical monthly record (11% and 188,000). In the morning, 'El programa de Ana Rosa' also posted strong numbers, averaging a 14% and 324,000 viewers in April.

At the lower end of the table, La Sexta (6.5%) once again outperformed Cuatro (5.7%), and La 2 matched its March figure (2.7%). Energy (2.5%), FDF (2.3%), and Atreseries (2%) were the most-watched DTT channels.
